Nozzle Tests
February 2019
Recently we tested the round nozzle design, comparing different diameter. Here are some photos of the different nozzle diameters and the resulting concrete prints.
11 April 2019
On 11 April 2019 we tested 3 different types of nozzle: square, square with 'wings', and angled. The results of these tests can be seen in the table below and the corresponding pictures. We didn't take pictures of all the test runs; only the more successful ones.
# | Nozzle Type | Layers | Layer Height | Print Speed | Pump Speed | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 30×30 square | 4 | 10 mm | 45 mm/s | 4.5 | – |
2 | 20×20 square wings | 6 | 10 mm | 40-45 mm/s | 3.8 | first layer height increased, started to sag so couldn't have printed much higher, sometimes pushes material ahead when flow rate exceeds print speed |
3 | 30×10 angled | – | 10 mm | 30 mm/s | 3.5 | extrusion started curling up |
4 | 30×10 angled | – | 8 mm | 30 mm/s | 3.5 | layer height too low, printer started to push away previous layers |
5 | 30×10 angled | 5 | 12 mm | 30 mm/s | 4.0-3.5 | pump speed lower after layer 3 |
6 | 30×10 angled | 4 | 25 mm | 25-50 mm/s | 4 | print speed 25 mm/s for layers 2,3,4 |
7 | 30×5 angled | 5 | 5 mm | 50 mm/s | 3 | – |
